You know what I'd like from my library? I'd like a website that integrated with the bricks-and-mortar building, so that I could...

...make a "books I'd like to read" list and access it from the library computers, preferably with notes on the location of the book, and whether it's available in other forms (audio, ebook, whatever)

...get an email when one of the books I'm interested in is returned and is free again.

...get an email when a book I have checked out is nearing its due date.

...log in and renew a book that I'm not done with, but is nearing its due date. (I may be able to actually do this with LO's current website, but my "login" is my library card barcode, and I don't carry that with me. I don't carry ANYTHING with me that can be looked up via my driver's license.)

Our library system has the last three (including an ability to place holds online that I LOVE and use all the time), and possibly the first one although I'm not certain. The sign-in-via-barcode thing is annoying (half the time I don't have it with me, and digging it out is a pain), but you can always save the number in a text file on your computer.

I sort of want the blockbuster online version of the library. I'd probably even be willing to pay for it. I don't want to have to deal with late fees, worrying about getting back to the library, etc. etc. which is why I tend to just buy books instead of checking them out.
