Power. I haz it.
Jun. 10th, 2008 11:00 amOur power came back around 2:30 this morning.
Casualties include the refrigerator, which will not cool (it appears to be the electronics that control the settings, as it's not possible to adjust them at all) and a surge suppressor. I am in the market for a good appliance repairman, as Sears says the earliest they can come out and fix my fridge is Friday.

Seriously though, I just had a lot of fun with an online gateway support guy.... Was having problems with a laptop and he asked me to try reseating my memory modules.... so I said ok... (thats all he said) After doing it (I was on another machine for the chat session), I asked him if I was "supposed to turn the laptop off before doing that because sparks flew out when I did it and it was smoking a little now."
Its very strange how much enjoyment I get out of messing with support people..... considering I provide a lot of support.... I wish someone would mess with me once in a while, make things more interesting.

Date: 2008-06-11 06:59 pm (UTC)I tend not to mess with support people just because if I'm calling in, I'm already annoyed. That's not the best place for my sense of humor to shine through.
My gripe with Sears is that they didn't try to offer me any solutions for what to do with my food for four days, or any suggestions to call anyone else or troubleshoot or generally acknowledge in any way that my refrigerator might be important to me. They did, however, try to upsell me into a $150 warranty (for one year; if my three-year-old fridge breaks in a major way again within a year, I will throw it out and swear off Kenmore products entirely) AND tried to get me to agree to have them come out and quote new cabinets for me (which I didn't want and never mentioned in the slightest; that was just the product they were pushing at the moment). And that was four days just to come see what was wrong with it; if they needed to order a part it would still be longer.
The local appliance store, on the other hand, was very apologetic that they couldn't get out to the house on the same day I called, but what with the power outage they had an unusually high workload, and I was first-in-line this morning instead. They still had to order parts, which means my fridge won't be fixed until Friday-- the same day Sears could come look at it.
