After many years of being strapped for cash, we are finally bringing in enough cash to have a comfortable cushion. Since most of my employees have also made sacrifices by accepting salaries lower than the industry standard, when I have cash above the cushion I tend to give out small bonuses, as one-time bonuses cause less budgetary strain than ongoing raises do.

Today before I ran payroll, I balanced all the accounts. They've had money above my cushion for a couple months now and I've been wanting to pass some of it out, so I gave everyone a small bonus in this paycheck. After I'd run it, submitted everything for direct deposit (and thus can't undo it, not that I would), and handed out paystubs, I started getting reactions. Every reaction was "Another bonus?" or "A bonus again?" Wait, what's with the "again" part?

It turns out that I gave them a bonus in their LAST paycheck, too. I just totally forgot that I'd done it. So they ended up with double the bonus.

Oops. I assumed this paycheck was the one you were talking about. As for "again", I meant the bonus from about 2/3 months ago. That was also very nice. :P

After I got multiple people with the same reaction, I went and looked, and there was a bonus in the 5/15 paycheck.

Wait.. does that mean I gave you guys a bonus a couple of months ago, too? I was thinking I hadn't done anything since December.
