R.I.P. Kira (1996? - 2008)
May. 18th, 2008 04:06 pmJohn found Kira on the floor under the kitchen table this afternoon, breathing heavily and laying awkwardly. He picked her up and put her on the table to pet her and observe her, and it became obvious quickly that she was not feeling well. She did not move her limbs, barely moved her tail when talked to, and wanted no part of the boiled chicken we had the refrigerator just for her.
We looked up a vet that was open on Sunday and got her into the carrier for the trip. We never made it there. She died in the car on the way.
Kira came to live with us in December of 1998. According to the shelter we got her from, she was 2 years old then. She quickly established her dominance over the dog, though for about a month she had to endure my grandparents, whose mental capacities had diminished to the point that they no longer really understood how to treat a cat. Mostly they just petted her, but every once in a while I'd catch Grandma trying to convince Kira to go somewhere by pulling on her tail. Kira seemed to understand that Grandma was well-intentioned, as she never responded violently to either my grandparents or small children-- she just meowed piteously and looked to John and I to save her.
She will be buried near her best buddy Caramel, who she lorded over for 8 years. And she will terribly, grievously missed.
