Detroit Police Field Day, August 1, 1936

Here's one for the local history buffs:
My great-grandfather (George Rank, who has been mentioned in a previous post) was a motorcycle cop for the Detroit Police for approximately forever (defined as "I wasn't born then so I don't really care"). They had a trick motorcycle-riding team, which he was on. I do not know exactly which of the men in these pictures is my great-grandfather; he's not around to tell me, and if he told anyone else they forgot about it.

At least one of these images is copyright The Detroit News. Since they're all printed on very similar paper, I suspect that all of them are from the same source.
As an aside: I have two copies of the one with all the officers standing on their bikes on top of the trucks, one of which is framed and on my wall. This is the extent of how many of those photos I want to put up, simply because it's not really my decorating style. However, I also don't want the photos to be thrown out (they're nice 8x10s) or stuffed into a box until another generation comes along to make a new decision. My solution is to give the photos to a restaurant or other establishment that uses the "historical photos" decorating scheme, on the grounds that they would be seen and enjoyed by others. The reaction to this decision thus far has been along the lines of "You can't be serious! You're not really going to give away photos of your great-grandfather!" The unspoken part at the end is not quite as strong as ", you spawn of Satan, you!", but it's right up there.
