Wheee!
The good news is that the endoscopy this morning shows that while John's ulcer has been acting up lately, it is healing on its own and did not need to be cauterized. And there isn't really any bad news, other than killing half a day at the hospital. He's got a bit of a sore throat from having tubes shoved down it, but a strawberry shake on the way home helped a lot, and we have a freezer full of no-chunks-in-it ice cream for when the shake wears off. He gets some new drugs for basically forever, but it's not unexpected, and he probably should have been on them a long time ago.
My happy mood from the last few days has settled into a basic contentment, which is still way better than average for the last ten months so I'll take it. I ran most of my errands yesterday on the way to work, so having to semi-babysit John isn't a big deal (he's fine, but since he was put under for the procedure, he's not supposed to be left unaccompanied for at least 12 hours while the remnants of the anesthesia works its way through his system), and if I do need to run out for something quick, Chris is here too. So it's not exactly a huge inconvenience for me, and it's nice to have a down day.
The only truly annoying thing today was a woman in the surgery waiting room who was listening to her CD player with headphones (good, headphones are considerate) and singing along (bad, not considerate) poorly (very bad, very not considerate). I'm all for singing along to your favorite songs, and I'm not all that good at it myself, but I do try to obtain the permission of those present, and I never deprive them of the music to help drown out my caterwauling.
Michael, I have a book for you. It's short, and when you're done just pass it on along to someone else. Pick a day for lunch so I can give you Installing Linux On A Dead Badger.
