This year, I am thankful for:

A sister-in-law who understands the concept of being overwhelmed, and who has been fantastic. When Mom was still expected to have Thanksgiving dinner with us, the plan was for me to host the evening, since we've had practice at getting her in and out of our house. However, I don't know how to cook a turkey, so my SIL offered to come over and help me prep and cook. When Mom went into the hospital, I dropped hosting Thanksgiving back into her lap with three days notice, and she took it in stride and never once cursed me (at least, not in range of my hearing).

A job that allows me super-flexible scheduling. Yeah, okay, I'll probably end up working a fair amount this holiday weekend, but when I needed to run around for or with my Mom, I could do it. When the new drugs caused me to need a nap pretty much every day, I went home and took a nap. Can you imagine what I would have had to do to cope if I had to actually show up for eight hours every day? I can't either.

A husband who has been amazingly supportive, and who Just Handles It when I can't take any more. A couple days ago, he fielded three different phone calls from my Mom, and just dealt with her requests (even the whacked out ones, like wanting him to bring her medications to the hospital) so that I could get some things done. Seven months, and never once has he cracked.

Friends who help me move things, listen to me whine, offer hugs, and are generally just there for me.

Sometimes the worst times are the best, too. May you all be as blessed as I am.
