Tribal Wars

I play an online game called Tribal Wars. In the last two weeks, a particular player has been a pain in the rear to a lot of the people near me. He never actually attacked me, but he did send scouts and I'm reasonable sure that I was on the list, just below some juicer targets. I also hold a grudge against him because he took over a certain village while I was stockpiling troops to take it over myself. He's got too strong of a position for any one of us to take him on toe-to-toe, but after comparing notes we decided to mount a co-ordinated attack. There's at least a half-dozen of us going after him all at the same time.

This is my stream-of-consciousness thoughts as it's going:

Hmm, scouting reports from the neighbor leading this attack. Lessee, he's got...wow. He's got a lot of troops defending his villages. Which one am I supposed to be targeting again? Oh, that one-- six thousand axemen? Who the hell just keeps six THOUSAND axemen just lying around? I don't have anywhere near enough troops. I am soooo going to get my ass handed to me. Is this normal? Is this guy just a freak who keeps those kind of troops just laying around, or am I seriously that outclassed in this game?

Well, I suppose that is the plan... I gave up my claim on the early villages in exchange for help with a later village from someone else, because there were too many of us wanting villages out of this. So my troops are pretty much kamikaze troops to help soften things up. Still.... holy crap.

Maybe I should accept that invitation to their tribe, see if there's any more specific planning on their forum. [Much clicking as I leave my existing tribe, which is scattered to the four winds and largely unable to help each other.] Oh, THAT'S what the map looks like when you have allies and enemies somewhere on the same continent. Erk... is the sudden lag just a coincidence, or does the map coloring really make that much of a difference?

Troops sent. An hour and a half before the attack arrives. So... what am I supposed to do for 90 minutes in the middle of the night?

[Much boredom and many short computer games later]

Wait, why did the smaller attack arrive first? That village is farther away... oh, geez, I didn't realize how slow catapults are. Well crap. I may as well have not even have sent the smaller force; they really needed the larger one to soften the village up a little.

Total wipeout. The co-ordinator wants me to attack a smaller enemy village because someone else didn't show up to play with us. What am I supposed to attack with? Why am I not going to bed? And what am I supposed to do for the 45 minutes while that attack gets there? Honestly, I'm hoping for a total wipeout there, so that I can go to sleep.

Maybe the co-ordinator wants a village. That would mean he'd need to take the later attacks, and I could go to bed. Hmmm...

Oh look, an incoming attack from the guy we were targeting. Maybe I'll get to sleep after all. Bah, it'll take an hour to get here. I'm not waiting an hour to find out what he sent. The co-ordinator doesn't want a village, but he says that the first waves pretty much decimated the target's main villages, so now it's just mopping up, and dealing with venegence from the rest of his tribe. That incoming attack is probably just scouts. Going to bed now. If it turns out I have no villages in the morning, I'll get over it.

[Morning update: I still have both my villages. As expected, the incoming attack was just scouts, and such a pathetic number of them that my forces killed them all, so he didn't get any information back. However, none of his villages have actually fallen, and I'm a little concerned about that. If we give him a chance to rebuild, he'll wipe us all out.]
