I'm running my first AmberCon game at ACNW this year. I'm a little nervous, but not terribly so, because AmberCon people have been extraordinarily supportive in the past.

U-Con was short on roleplaying events, so I said "Eh, toss that game in, and we'll see how it goes." It's a Harry Potter game, so Laura was pretty sure I'd get a draw just from that, but I had my doubts. First, AmberCon encourages long game descriptions, so while I didn't write a LOT of text for the description, it was far more than would fit in the description for U-Con's program book-- so the U-Con description has all the flavor text of the setting stripped out in favor of system information. Second, the game is for AmberCon, so it's diceless and uses a very simplistic system... which is great for a gaming convention that emphasizes the story over the mechanics and is so entrenched in the diceless idea that games that use dice often have "Warning Labels" plastered all over their description, and not so great for typical gaming-convention games. I expected to see a lot of generic-ticket players, people who had nothing better to do and stopped by to see what it was like. I half-expected to have some people who just watched others play... and then if I made the game interesting enough and compelling enough, I'd get "real" players for a similar game NEXT year.

But, in the process of going through and entering registration info, I found someone who ordered and paid for two tickets into my game.

Guess I'm going to have to get my butt in gear and come up with a really compelling game.
