Playtastic semi-weekend
Thursday night: Incorruptible, performed by the Clarkston Village Players, in which CJ and Jim were excellent. (So were the rest of the cast, but who cares about them?)
Friday night: Incorruptible again. Plan A was to take Rose there to surprise CJ, stay long enough to watch his reaction as he realized she was there, then leave at intermission and feign surprise that she was in town when they got home. The first problem came when CJ announced on Thursday afternoon that some of the cast planned to go out to dinner Friday after the show and if I wanted to come along, he'd call me when the curtain went down. The second problem came after the show on Thursday when I realized that CJ can't see anything while on stage, because he wears glasses but his character does not-- so I wasn't sure he'd realize Rose was there until the meet-and-greet afterward. The final "fuck it, I'll just stay for the whole thing" came 2 hours before curtain when Mia called to say they had tickets for the night's performance. The good news is that the comedy is as funny the second time through as it was the first.
Saturday night: Oliver! performed by Six Stools and a Folding Chair, aka "Matt's children and some other kids." I would say that Matt's kids are all adorable, except that one of E's costumes highlighted* the fact that she grew into a young woman when I wasn't looking, and now "beautiful" fits her much better than "adorable" does.
I love you all, but I'd like some time off from theaters for a little bit. Nobody perform for a couple of weeks, 'k?
* "highlit"? Spellcheck doesn't think so, but "highlighted" feels wrong.
