Six months ago, I had a boil flare up and refuse to die. After the antibiotics failed to control it, my doctor lanced it, and commented that it was very deep, and if the lancing wasn't enough to get it to drain on its own, I should see a surgeon about it because it was too deep for him to feel confident enough to do anything more.

Last month, the same area flared up again, with the same symptoms as before. This time, I went to the surgeon he recommended, and I have to say that I was very impressed with her. She's competent, friendly, and aware that my time is as valuable as hers. She was willing to do the surgery right then and there, rather than making me come back for a second visit (which is rare these days). My only complaint is a minor one, in that I spent quite a bit of time in the exam room waiting for her, but I was late and arrived after the person with the next appointment, so having to sit and wait is as much my fault as hers (and even with having to sit and wait, it took under two hours to go from walking in the door through the new-patient paperwork and the exam and the local anesthetic and the surgery and the stitches and the "here's your balance and your prescription for an antibiotic" and paying and back out the door into my car, so it's still a quite reasonable timeframe.)

Her specialty seems to be breast cancer, based on the literature in her waiting room, but obviously she does minor skin lesions and such as well, so if you happen to find yourself in need of minor surgery, go see Dr Isabelle Audet in Oxford and Rochester.
