Why is it that so many people consider filing to be difficult?
Seriously, I went and made a little "Where does it go?" list for recurring things, so that you can glance at the list and see that if you have in your hand an invoice from Company X, it goes into the file labeled "Cost of Goods Sold" and if you have in your hand an invoice from Company Y, it goes into the file labeled "Software". 95% of what we file is on this list. I did this specifically so that I could get out of having to file things myself while still being able to find them later if I needed them.
And yet when I needed to pull out two pieces of paper at the request of our accountant, I had to search through every single file until I found the second one. In the process of doing so, I found more things that were misfiled, one of which had my writing on it that read "File as [words that match a label on a folder]" so even though it's part of the other 5%, there's no fucking excuse whatsoever for not knowing where it belongs.
