Two weeks ago, I took on a new project. No one asked me to do it, and I'm actually pretty certain that the person most affected by it will not be entirely pleased with all of it. But it was one of those "I've had it with this nonsense!" moments.

I've been substituting for Barb fairly regularly, teaching her clogging class on Wednesday night, and every single time I've been frustrated by her complete lack of organization for her cuesheets and CDs. So I took them home with me to sort the paper and burn new CDs. (Plus backups of the CDs for me, for when they get scratched up. Again.)

As an explanation, I can only offer that I am totally, utterly insane.

It's not that the project is terribly hard or anything, but it's time consuming. And what I lack most at the moment is time. This project has a hard deadline of Wednesday afternoon, because the CDs must be back in time for the next class at 6:00pm. Realistically, I'd rather drop them off at Barb's house (she lives 15 minutes away from me) by Wednesday morning/early afternoon, so that I can go to Sam's class instead. Otherwise, I have to leave work around 4pm in order to make it to Novi in time, because rush hour sucks.

I've given up on the idea of getting all the CDs burned; now I'm just trying to focus on getting the music off the old CDs so that I can burn new ones at my leisure. Which means that the project has expanded from "whatever I can manage in the time alloted" to taking up even more time.

On the plus side, her cuesheets are organized sanely now. While I'm certain that Barb will be thrilled with new CDs I don't know how she's going to take the cuesheet re-organization, since it involved throwing out a lot of duplicate paper (the center that we have class in is willing to make copies for us on demand, so there's no need to keep 20 copies of a cuesheet unless it's the dance being taught that week).

This joins the growing list of projects that are driving me nuts, including three sets of taxes (business, personal, and Mom's), the coding project from Hell that directly affects my employees' efficiency, and clearing out the room in the basement that I spent months turning into my private retreat and then filled up with Mom's crap when we cleaned out her house, and the myriad of minor projects that are each small and manageable on their own but that bond together into a seething mass of More F*ing Stuff That Needs To Get Done. Plus, of course, keeping up with normal day-to-day things like making sure our invoices go out so that we get paid.

Someone shoot me. Or at least tie me down and stop me from taking on any more projects until I finish some of the ones I already have.
